This month, we honor black history and those African-Americans who have broken down countless racial barriers and achieved many successes which have benefited generations. In celebration of Black History Month, Pathmark annually hosts the Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition, which will take place this year on February 27, 2010 at the World Financial Center-Winter Garden. Now in its 10th year, the competition is bringing top choirs from churches, schools and community organizations around the country to New York City to compete for $10,000 in prizes.
Gospel music lovers of every age are invited to enjoy inspirational bands, fine soloists and sweet harmonies as hundreds of people join together to showcase their musical talents. Guests can come for an hour or stay for the day at this free celebration as choirs, famous in their own communities, mark their place in Manhattan!
Highlighting this year’s Gospel Choir Competition will be the guest appearance of Tony Award Winning actor, singer and dancer Ben Vereen, who will be the events MC for the competition. Best known for this role as “Chicken” George in the renowned 1977 miniseries Roots, Vereen has also starred in many Broadway productions and has appeared in numerous films and television shows.
